Welcome to the Off the Grid Campout!

August 6-9, 2007 in Emigrant, Montana

About 40 people are meeting at my mom's house in Emigrant Montana for the first "Off the Grid" campout. Videobloggers, geeks, developers, and entrepreneurs (and a "motorcycle enthusiast") and their families are coming. What's the goal? To see some of the most spectacular real estate anywhere in the world (Yellowstone National Park is 30 minutes away) and where we can -work on projects to improve the future of the Internet together - drink beer and hang out by the Yellowstone River, or go swimming at Chico Hot Springs.

No Internet

Sorry, there isn't good Internet access. The whole point is to get off the grid for a few days and discover the great outdoors together with other geeks and creative people. Oh, OK, if you really need a hit for your Internet addiction, Verizon's wireless service works up here and there's wifi at Chico Hot Springs resort.

The location

My mom's house.

406-333-4306 (I'm not sure this will work). My cell phone is 425-205-1921.

Note that my cell phone doesn't work at the house.

Please note that online mapping services aren't very accurate. Google Maps gets you the closest. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=176+Capricorn+Dr.+Emigrant+MT+59027&ie=UTF8&ll=45.370645,-110.755405&spn=0.006165,0.021458&om=1

But, it's an easy to find house. When you get on top of the hill you'll see a big A-frame house off to your right.

Directions from Livingston on 89: Emigrant is a very small town. Just one blinking red light on Hiway 89 about half an hour south of Livingston. It's easy to miss. Anyway, if you're coming from Livingston on 89 you'll get to a blinking light. You need to take a right on Murphy Lane and then an immediate left on Story Road (Emigrant Post Office and Bank will be on your left). That continues for a while, then has a hairpin turn to the right and then you'll go up a steep hill. Once you get to the top of the hill you'll see my mom's house off in the distance to your right. It's a big "A frame" house -- the biggest hill in the North Glastonbury subdivision where here house is located. You'll take a right on Aries drive, then another right on Capricorn. My mom's house is the second driveway on the left (I think). I'll try to leave a marker on her street sign so you'll know, but it's hard to miss at that point.
